The Traditional Okinawan Karate Institute specializes in working with each student toward mutually agreed goals.

Frequent practice regimes and structured programs go on six days a week. Classes are composed of men, women and children from a variety of backgrounds. Everyone works together to help one another achieve the highest level of martial arts education.

Master Carl Martin is a 7th Degree black belt and has over 30 years of training in the Martial Arts. He has won many national and regional titles in sparring, weapons, kata and self-defense. In August of 2003, Master Martin was inducted into the Isshinryu Karate Hall of Fame and was selected "Sensei of Sensei".  In 1998 he was inducted into the Pennsylvania Karate Hall of Fame. In 1997, he received the A.O.K.A. Spirit of Isshinryu Award for his contribution & dedication to the art of Isshinryu Karate and in 1994, Master Martin was chosen the American Okinawan Karate Association Instructor of the Year. Master Martin currently instructs an Introduction to Martial Arts accredited course at Widener University in Chester, PA. in addition to several other community oriented self-defense courses. The Traditional Okinawan Karate Institute facility has other certified black belt instructors who assist in the classes. Master Martin oversees every class taught at the school.

CHILDREN’S PROGRAMS

"SIDE KICKS" -- This is a special program designed for children 3 to 6. It is intended to teach co-ordination, discipline, enhance dexterity and introduce children to low level martial arts.

"PEE WEES" -- This program is designed for children 7 to 11. It teaches the basics of karate, enhances concentration and self-esteem. Focuses on behavior, courtesy and speech.

"JUNIORS" -- This program is for older children ages 12 to 15 that have the desire to learn true karate and self-defense.

ADULT CLASSES

Adult classes are divided into beginner, intermediate and advance classes. Classes promote co-ordination, self-esteem, discipline and improve physical and mental condition. Major focus on a high level of martial arts and self-defense. Students progress at individual rate.

WOMEN’S SELF-DEFENSE

The Women’s Self-Defense Program is designed to help women learn basic techniques that will assist them in dealing with potentially harmful situations. The program promotes self-confidence, improves physical condition and mental attitude. Enhancing ones mental awareness level as ones number one weapon of defense.

Two-hour sessions are held once per monthly focusing on awareness, types of attacks and physical techniques. Class days and times will be listed in the Events section of the web site. Certified female black belt instructors instruct this program under the direction of Master Martin.

Private self-defense sessions are also available. Sessions can be tailored to your particular concerns, and we will travel to your school or place of business to conduct group-training sessions.
